Basma is so interest to know more about her grand parents past; and how they live without all technologies and inventions , so she decide to ask her grand mother about all her questions about how the life has been in the past .
Basma: grand mother, in your times there was nothing beautiful every thing was old and too bad.
Grandma: no, not at all, you are absolutely wrong.
Basma: what do you mean?
Grandma : I mean that in our times we were always busy .
Basma: grandma, what did you use to eat there.
Grandma : yes, in old times people used to eat delicious and healthy food because women had long of time to cook.
Basma: what types of food did it contain?Grandma :. The national dish of Algeria is couscous,it steamed semolina wheat served with lamb or chicken, cooked vegetables, and gravy. This is so basic to the Algerian diet that its name in Arabic(, ta'am), translates as "food." Common flavorings include onions, turnips, raisins, chickpeas, and red peppers, as well as salt, pepper, cumin, and coriander. Alternatively, couscous can be served sweet, flavored with honey, cinnamon, or almonds. Other common foods are chorba, a spicy soup; dolma, a mixture of tomatoes and peppers, and bourek,. The traditional Berber meal among the poorer people is a cake made of mixed grains and a drink mixed together from crushed goat cheese, dates, and water.
Basma: what about drinks?
Grandma : Strong black coffee and sweetened mint tea are popular, as well as apricot or other sweetened fruit juices. Laban also is drunk, a mixture of yogurt and water with mint leaves for flavoring. Algeria grows grapes and produces its own wine, but alcohol is not widely consumed, as it is forbidden by the Islamic religion
Basma: sorry grandma, but what about clothes?
Grandma : people there used to wear nice clothes as m'laya and mlahef for women. And for men, there was lot of types as: bernous, kachabyia.
Basma: grandma, how did people there use to travel?
Grandma : well, we had to travel on foot, on animals( donkeys, horses, camels,…).and some of us used to travel with stage coach.
Basma: grandma, how did they do to celebrate weddings and pass their free times.
Grandma : oh, my dear, in our time, we had to cooperate with others in location that make it better , and we had no free times to pass , we always as busy as bees, we have to cook delicious food, and telling nice stories. Since we had more opportunities to meet interact so we were able to chat with our neighbors and have cup of coffee with friends.
Basma: how did you live there without all the technologies as: computer, television , telephone,…
Grandma :are you joking? In the past we didn’t need all these tools and technologies .we had to tell tradition tales or sing folk songs.
Basma: oh, grandma, I wish if I were there, I will change my life into better with traditions.
